Role Description and Responsibilities
Role Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Data Analyst to join our data science team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with sensor/instrumentation engineers and report directly to the data science tech lead. You will play a critical role in analyzing sensor data, extracting actionable insights, and creating visualizations that empower decision-making. Your ability to ask the right questions, engage with cross-functional teams, and deliver impactful analyses and dashboards will be key to your success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Processing:
- Pull, clean, and analyze data from BigQuery and other data sources using Python
- Identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights from sensor data and other relevant datasets
- Utilize the existing ELT pipeline to create useful data transformations that will be implemented in client-facing dashboards
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the sensor/instrumentation engineers to understand data collection mechanisms and ensure accurate analysis
- Engage with the data science tech lead to align analyses with broader business and technical objectives
- Liaise with the product team to gather requirements for dashboards and visualizations
- Dashboard Development:
- Design and develop intuitive dashboards and visualizations using tools like Looker
- Translate business needs into scalable, maintainable analysis dashboards
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Present findings clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proactively ask questions to refine analyses, uncover hidden insights, and improve data quality
- Best Practices:
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness throughout all stages of analysis
- Document processes, workflows, and methodologies for team-wide knowledge sharing
Core Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
- Proficiency in SQL for querying and managing large datasets in BigQuery
- Strong Python skills for data analysis and manipulation (e.g., pandas, NumPy, matplotlib, seaborn)
- Experience creating dashboards and visualizations using Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to ask the right questions to refine analysis and outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the maritime/shipping industry or an understanding of related datasets and challenges
- Experience working with GCP tools, particularly Looker and LookML
- Knowledge of data pipelines and ETL processes
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey insights to diverse stakeholders
